Water Filter Donation to Madduvil Gnana Theebam Pre-School

Access to clean and safe drinking water is a basic human need and a critical component of children’s health and well-being. Recognizing the importance of providing pure drinking water for young children, the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage took the initiative to install a water filtration system at Madduvil Gnana Theebam Pre-School. This meaningful project was made possible through the generous sponsorship of Mr. Alagaratnam Nagulendira, whose support helped ensure a healthier environment for the students.
Objective:
The primary goal of this project was to provide safe and clean drinking water to the students and staff of the pre-school. Many rural schools face challenges in accessing clean water, which can lead to waterborne illnesses and absenteeism. By addressing this fundamental issue, the project aimed to promote better health, hygiene, and educational outcomes for the children.
Project Location:
Madduvil Gnana Theebam Pre-School, located in a semi-rural area of the Jaffna district, serves as an early childhood educational institution for local families. The school caters to several young students from nearby communities who come from modest socioeconomic backgrounds.
Implementation:
The project began with a site visit and needs assessment conducted by members of the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage. After identifying the lack of a clean water supply as a key issue, the club coordinated the procurement and installation of a high-quality water filter system suitable for regular use by children.
The water filter chosen was efficient in removing impurities, bacteria, and harmful contaminants while retaining essential minerals. It was installed in a location easily accessible to the children and staff, with special care taken to ensure the system’s safety, durability, and user-friendliness.
Sponsorship:
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Alagaratnam Nagulendira, whose sponsorship made this project a reality. His philanthropic spirit and dedication to uplifting the lives of children in need have left a lasting impact on the school and its students.
Impact:
The installation of the water filter system has brought about immediate benefits:
Students now have access to safe drinking water throughout the school day.
Teachers and staff report fewer complaints of stomach-related illnesses among students.
Parents feel more confident sending their children to a school that cares for their well-being.
The project also served as an opportunity to educate the children about the importance of clean water and hygiene.
