Supporting Students Through Better Vision

On 22 December 2025, a joint initiative with the Rotary Club of Mannar enabled the provision of spectacles to students of J/Nallur St. Benedict’s RCTM School, supporting their learning and well-being.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), promoting disease prevention, supporting child healthcare, and protecting basic education stand at the core of our community service mission. Clear vision is a fundamental requirement for effective learning; yet, undetected and uncorrected refractive errors often hinder children’s academic performance, leading to avoidable difficulties in reading, writing, and classroom participation.
On 22 December 2025, our club partnered in a meaningful joint humanitarian service project alongside the Rotary Club of Mannar to distribute custom prescription spectacles to students of J/Nallur St. Benedict’s RCTM School, directly supporting their eyesight, academic focus, and overall well-being.

Enhancing Academic Success and Quality of Life Through Clear Vision

Visual impairments among young learners are frequently mistaken for learning difficulties or lack of attention. By identifying vision challenges early and providing customized prescription eyeglasses, this targeted intervention delivers immediate and enduring benefits:
  • Enhancing Classroom Learning: Clear vision enables students to read blackboards, study textbooks, and complete assignments comfortably without suffering from eye strain, blurred vision, or chronic headaches.
  • Boosting Self-Confidence & Academic Performance: Restoring optimal eyesight eliminates unnecessary obstacles in daily school life, empowering students to engage actively in lessons, examinations, and extracurricular activities.
  • Lifting Financial Burdens off Families: Specialized optometric assessments and prescription eyeglasses can place a considerable financial strain on low-income households; providing free spectacles removes this economic barrier for parents.
  • Encouraging Preventive Health Awareness: The initiative highlighted the critical importance of regular eye screenings and eye hygiene among school staff, parents, and students alike.
The bright smiles, newfound clarity, and visible relief on the faces of the children at J/Nallur St. Benedict’s RCTM School during the handover ceremony affirmed the life-changing impact of pediatric vision care.
