Paranthan Flood Relief Support

Today, we provided dried food rations to 30 flood-affected families in the Paranthan area. We sincerely thank Governor-Elect Rtn. Kumar, Mahilini Kirubakaran, and Rtn. Gowthamy for their generous support and compassion.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), rapid disaster response, hunger alleviation, and direct humanitarian relief remain fundamental to our service mission. When heavy monsoon rains cause localized flooding, rural communities often face severe disruptions to their daily routines, leaving households without access to dry kitchens, markets, or essential provisions.
Continuing our dedicated flood relief operations across the Northern Province, our club mobilized swiftly today to distribute comprehensive dried food ration packs directly to 30 flood-affected families in the Paranthan area.

Restoring Food Security and Comfort to Vulnerable Families

In low-lying agricultural and semi-urban pockets like Paranthan, prolonged waterlogging dampens homes, halts daily wage labor, and compromises local food supplies. Providing wholesome, non-perishable dry rations delivers critical stability during emergency recovery:
  • Nutritious, Essential Provisions: Each relief pack contained essential staples—including rice, lentils, flour, sugar, and canned goods—ensuring families have the necessary ingredients to prepare balanced meals at home.
  • Support for Damaged Households: By providing non-perishable food supplies, the initiative relieved immediate nutritional pressures on 30 families as they work to dry out their living spaces and resume normal activities.
  • Direct Grassroots Distribution: Our volunteer team coordinated directly with local community representatives in Paranthan to ensure that aid was handed over safely, orderly, and directly to the households in most acute distress.
  • Fostering Reassurance and Dignity: Beyond meeting material needs, our physical presence in affected neighborhoods served as a heartfelt reminder to residents that they are not alone during natural adversities.
The profound relief, warm reception, and sincere gratitude shared by the recipient families in Paranthan highlighted the vital importance of timely grassroots humanitarian assistance.
