Health Awareness for Students

Today, we conducted a health education programme in partnership with the Rotary Club of Chennai Legends at Pallawarayankaddu Don Bosco School, with the support of the Poonagary MOH and PHI officers.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), promoting disease prevention, basic healthcare, and hygiene education is fundamental to our humanitarian mission. Fostering proactive health awareness at a young age empowers students to adopt healthy habits, protects families from preventable diseases, and builds resilient, thriving communities.
Today, we proudly organized and conducted a comprehensive Health Education Programme at Pallawarayankaddu Don Bosco School, carried out in international fellowship and partnership with the Rotary Club of Chennai Legends (Rotary District 3232, India), and with the expert guidance and logistical support of the Poonagary Medical Officer of Health (MOH) and Public Health Inspector (PHI) officers.

Fostering Lifelong Health and Hygiene Practices

School-based health interventions provide the ideal setting to instill lifelong hygiene habits, correct common misconceptions, and address regional public health challenges. The interactive educational sessions covered vital health, wellness, and preventive care topics:
  • Personal Hygiene & Handwashing: Demonstrating proper sanitization and handwashing techniques to prevent the spread of seasonal flu, bacterial infections, and waterborne illnesses.
  • Nutrition & Child Growth: Educating students on balanced diets, indigenous nutritious foods, and the vital role of vitamins and minerals in physical development and academic focus.
  • Vector-Borne Disease Prevention: PHI officers provided practical insights into eliminating mosquito breeding sites around homes and schools to combat dengue and other seasonal illnesses.
  • Adolescent Health & Well-being: Guiding senior students on physical health, mental wellness, and positive daily lifestyle choices to support their overall development.
The enthusiastic participation of the students, coupled with the engaging demonstrations by public health officials, made the sessions both informative and memorable for everyone at Pallawarayankaddu Don Bosco School.
