Dinner Support for Flood-Affected Families

We distributed 300 food parcels to flood-affected families in Palali today for dinner. This initiative was generously sponsored by PDG Suri Rajan. Our sincere thanks to him for his kind support.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), rapid disaster response, hunger alleviation, and direct humanitarian relief remain fundamental to our service mission. When severe seasonal rains and severe flooding disrupt communities, vulnerable families often lose access to dry firewood, cooking gas, clean water, and food supplies, leaving them unable to prepare basic daily meals.
Continuing our ongoing disaster mitigation efforts, our club mobilized swiftly today to distribute 300 cooked food parcels for dinner directly to flood-affected families across the Palali area.

Delivering Warm Meals and Immediate Relief to Flood-Impacted Homes

In the wake of localized flooding, ensuring access to a warm, wholesome evening meal is vital for maintaining health, comfort, and emotional well-being among displaced and marooned residents:
  • Nutritious Evening Sustenance: The distributed food parcels provided balanced, warm dinner meals to 300 children, elders, and family members whose home kitchens remained submerged or non-operational due to standing water.
  • Targeted Doorstep Distribution: Our volunteer teams navigated waterlogged roads and low-lying zones across the Palali area, ensuring that cooked meals reached the most vulnerable households directly before nightfall.
  • Mitigating Acute Distress: By providing freshly prepared meals, this initiative addressed immediate hunger concerns, allowing affected families to focus on securing their shelters, belongings, and family members.
  • Reassurance in Times of Crisis: The on-the-ground presence of our Rotarians served as a meaningful reminder of community care, ensuring that impacted residents felt supported during a distressing natural event.
The relief and profound gratitude expressed by the recipients across Palali reaffirmed the vital importance of prompt, empathetic grassroots interventions.
