Road Safety Awareness Speed Control Board Installed at Ramanathan College

Road Safety Awareness Initiative: Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage Installs Speed Control Board at Ramanathan College, Maruthanarmadam

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), public safety, community welfare, and disease and injury prevention remain central priorities of our service journey. Every day, thousands of students, teachers, and daily commuters navigate busy transport corridors across our towns. Creating safer school zones by promoting traffic awareness and proactive accident prevention is essential to safeguarding precious lives and fostering a secure, hazard-free community.
As part of our dedicated commitment to community health and accident prevention, our club successfully executed a vital road safety intervention by installing a prominent, high-visibility speed control board directly in front of Ramanathan College, Maruthanarmadam.

Protecting School Zones and Inspiring Safe Driving

School areas along main roads often experience high volumes of through-traffic alongside pedestrians, school vans, and cyclists during peak morning and afternoon dismissal hours. Without prominent cautionary indicators, speeding vehicles pose severe hazards to vulnerable pedestrians. Installing a dedicated speed control sign in this busy school zone provides direct and lasting community safety benefits:
  • Shielding Vulnerable Schoolchildren: The speed control board provides a clear, unmistakable visual warning to oncoming motorists, prompting them to slow down as young students cross to and from Ramanathan College.
  • Encouraging Responsible Motorist Behavior: Clear traffic signage fosters driver awareness, curbing reckless driving habits and promoting a culture of patience and defensive driving through populated pedestrian zones.
  • Minimizing Traffic Collisions and Fatalities: By encouraging slower transit speeds near school gates, the initiative drastically reduces the likelihood of vehicular collisions and severe pedestrian injuries.
  • Fostering Public Safety Consciousness: Positioned visibly at Maruthanarmadam, the sign serves as a continuous reminder to all road users that highway safety is a collective civic duty.
