Supporting a Family in Need

Today, we provided a goat to support and uplift a family living below the poverty line in the Madduvil area. Heartfelt thanks to Rtn. Thanitha Kirubakaran for the generous sponsorship.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), promoting economic self-sufficiency, sustainable livelihoods, and long-term poverty alleviation are core pillars of our humanitarian service. Sustainable community development is most effective when families are equipped with practical, income-generating resources that foster financial independence and security.
Today, we take great pride and joy in announcing the handover of a healthy, productive goat to a deserving family living below the poverty line in the Madduvil area, providing them with a viable foundation to build a self-sustaining livelihood.

Fostering Sustainable Livelihoods Through Livestock Rearing

For low-income rural households facing economic hardship, access to a sustainable asset provides a reliable, ongoing source of income and long-term security. Livestock support delivers practical, compounding benefits for family well-being:
  • Sustainable Income Generation: Goat farming provides regular economic returns through the sale of dairy, offspring, and organic manure, creating a dependable supplementary income stream.
  • Low Initial Maintenance and High Resilience: Goats thrive easily in local rural environments, feeding primarily on natural vegetation and requiring minimal feed costs, making it a manageable asset for the family.
  • Asset Building and Multiplication: As the livestock breeds, the family can expand their herd over time, steadily increasing their household asset value and economic stability.
  • Supporting Child Welfare and Education: The recurring revenue generated from livestock rearing directly assists the family in funding children’s schooling supplies, proper nutrition, and essential healthcare needs.
