130 Milk Packets for Flood Relief

Yesterday, we distributed the final sets of dry milk powder boxes to the flood-affected people in the Kariyalai Nagapaduvan Killinochchi. In total, we distributed 130 milk powder packets yesterday to the flood-affected people. Thanks for the generous support to Rotary District 3220.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), rapid disaster response, child nutrition, and grassroots humanitarian relief remain core pillars of our community commitment. When seasonal downpours and severe flooding submerge rural villages, access to basic kitchen supplies, clean food, and essential nutrition becomes critically disrupted, placing infants, growing children, and elderly residents in immediate vulnerability.
Concluding our extensive flood relief mission across the Northern Province, our club mobilized yesterday to distribute the final sets of dry milk powder boxes, handing over a total of 130 milk powder packets directly to flood-affected families in Kariyalai Nagapaduvan, Kilinochchi.

Sustaining Essential Nutrition in Flood-Impacted Communities

In remote and rural areas like Kariyalai Nagapaduvan, receding floodwaters leave behind damp homes, damaged cooking facilities, and prolonged disruptions to daily wage labor and local markets. Distributing shelf-stable, high-nutrition dry milk powder provides practical, vital relief tailored to emergency recovery:
  • Critical Child & Family Nutrition: Dry milk powder serves as a vital source of protein, calcium, and essential micronutrients, helping sustain the physical stamina and immune health of young children, nursing mothers, and vulnerable elders.
  • Safe, Shelf-Stable Sustenance: Packed securely against moisture, sealed milk powder provides families with a safe, hygienic food source that can be easily prepared with boiled or purified drinking water, preventing the risk of waterborne illnesses.
  • Reaching the Most Vulnerable: The distribution of these 130 packets prioritized low-income households, single-parent families, and homes with toddlers who faced severe hardships during the recent floods.
  • Direct Handover at the Grassroots: Our dedicated volunteer team coordinated directly with local community representatives to ensure that every packet reached the hands of families in genuine need.
The heartfelt relief, warm smiles, and profound gratitude shared by mothers and families in Kariyalai Nagapaduvan brought a deeply fulfilling conclusion to this phase of our emergency disaster relief drive.
