Supporting Flood-Affected Families

Today, we distributed dry milk powder to the flood-affected families in the Poonakary area. Thanks for the generous support to Rotary District 3220

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), rapid disaster response, child nutrition, and emergency community welfare remain vital avenues of our humanitarian service. When relentless seasonal rains and severe flooding submerge low-lying regions, access to basic nutritional supplies and clean food sources becomes critically disrupted, placing infants, growing children, and the elderly in immediate vulnerability.
Continuing our ongoing flood mitigation operations across the region, our club mobilized today to distribute essential dry milk powder packs directly to flood-affected families throughout the Poonakary area.

Sustaining Vital Child and Family Nutrition During Disasters

In the aftermath of localized inundation, households frequently lose access to daily groceries, refrigeration, and fresh supplies. Distributing durable, high-nutrition dry milk powder provides practical, life-sustaining relief for families navigating temporary hardship:
  • Essential Daily Nutrition: Dry milk powder provides a crucial source of high-quality protein, calcium, and essential vitamins necessary for maintaining the physical strength and immunity of young children and nursing mothers.
  • Safe, Long-Lasting Sustenance: Unlike fresh liquid dairy, sealed dry milk powder offers a stable shelf life and can be prepared safely using boiled or purified drinking water, ensuring disease-free consumption in damp environments.
  • Support for Vulnerable Households: The relief initiative prioritized low-income homes, families with infants, and elderly residents in Poonakary whose regular livelihoods have been halted by floodwaters.
  • Rapid Grassroots Delivery: Club members and community volunteers navigated inundated access routes to deliver relief packs directly to doorsteps and community shelters, ensuring aid reached those in acute distress.
The profound relief, warm smiles, and heartfelt gratitude expressed by mothers and families across the Poonakary communities reinforced the critical value of prompt, targeted nutritional aid during natural emergencies.

Heartfelt Gratitude to Rotary District 3220

Large-scale disaster relief operations rely on swift coordination, regional solidarity, and strong institutional leadership. We extend our deepest, most sincere gratitude to Rotary International District 3220 (Sri Lanka & Maldives) for their generous financial and logistical support toward this crucial distribution.
The District’s continuous dedication to humanitarian aid, crisis relief, and community welfare provided the necessary resources to procure and deliver these essential supplies to Poonakary. Collaborative partnerships like this embody the true power of the Rotary network and reflect our shared dedication to Service Above Self.
We also convey our appreciation to the local community coordinators, Grama Niladhari officers, and volunteers in Poonakary who assisted in identifying the most affected families and ensuring orderly, dignified distribution.
