124 Breads for Flood-Affected Families

Today, we distributed 124 Rathal breads to flood-affected families in the Palali area. This initiative was generously sponsored by Ms. Saalini Nadeshalingam. Our sincere thanks to her for the support.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), rapid disaster response, hunger relief, and community solidarity stand at the core of our humanitarian mission. When sudden natural disasters strike, vulnerable households often lose access to basic necessities, kitchen facilities, and safe food supplies, making immediate emergency assistance critical to sustaining families through challenging times.
Today, in response to severe localized flooding, our club members mobilized swiftly to distribute 124 loaves of fresh Rathal bread directly to flood-affected families across the Palali area.

Providing Immediate Relief and Nourishment in Times of Crisis

Severe weather and floodwaters disrupt everyday life, displacing families and cutting off access to clean cooking fuel, dry rations, and local markets. In the immediate aftermath of inundation, ready-to-eat food distributions deliver essential, practical relief:
  • Direct Emergency Sustenance: Fresh Rathal bread provides immediate carbohydrates, energy, and nourishment to children, elders, and families unable to cook in flooded or damp home environments.
  • Rapid Grassroots Distribution: Our volunteer team reached vulnerable households directly within the inundated pockets of the Palali area, ensuring that food aid was delivered efficiently to those facing acute distress.
  • Preventing Immediate Hunger: Timely food supplies prevent immediate hunger and distress, helping families cope while waters recede and long-term recovery efforts begin.
  • Community Solace and Emotional Support: Beyond nutritional sustenance, our physical presence in affected neighborhoods served as a reassuring reminder to residents that they are not alone during natural disasters.
The relief and heartfelt gratitude expressed by the recipients across Palali served as a poignant reminder of why proactive disaster relief remains a vital avenue of community service.
