Blood Donation Camp

The blood donation camp organized by our club was held at Uthayasooriyan Community Centre, Erlalai on 23 November 2025.

At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), promoting disease prevention, critical healthcare support, and life-saving community initiatives stands at the very heart of our humanitarian mission. Blood donation is one of the most direct and profound ways a community can come together to save lives, support emergency medical care, and strengthen regional healthcare infrastructure.
On 23rd November 2025, our club successfully organized and conducted a community-wide Blood Donation Camp at the Uthayasooriyan Community Centre, Erlalai, drawing donors, medical professionals, and dedicated volunteers united in the spirit of service.

Saving Lives Through Voluntary Blood Donation

Access to safe, sufficient, and timely blood supplies is essential for hospitals handling emergency surgeries, trauma cases, maternal care, oncology treatments, and chronic blood disorders across the Northern Province. Organizing a localized donation camp provided a convenient and accessible platform for everyday citizens to contribute directly to this vital cause:
  • Restocking Regional Blood Banks: The pints of blood collected during the camp will directly bolster the reserves of local hospital blood banks, ensuring critical supplies are ready for urgent patient needs.
  • Fostering a Culture of Voluntary Giving: The initiative inspired numerous first-time and regular voluntary donors from Erlalai and neighboring villages, raising awareness about the safety, ease, and continuous need for regular blood donation.
  • Comprehensive Health Screening: Every voluntary donor underwent thorough preliminary health screenings—including blood pressure checks, hemoglobin testing, and medical history reviews—ensuring donor safety and well-being throughout the process.
  • Community Unity and Solidarity: The camp brought together youth, community leaders, and local families, demonstrating the power of civic action in addressing critical healthcare shortages.
The overwhelming response, selflessness, and generous turnout of donors throughout the day made the camp a tremendous humanitarian success.

Sincere Gratitude to Medical Teams, Hosts, and Donors

A life-saving project of this magnitude relies on the coordination, skill, and compassion of healthcare professionals and community partners:
  • Hospital Medical & Transfusion Teams: We express our deepest appreciation to the visiting doctors, nurses, and laboratory technicians from the regional blood bank for their meticulous care, professionalism, and safe clinical management.
  • Uthayasooriyan Community Centre: Our heartfelt thanks go to the management and committee of the Uthayasooriyan Community Centre, Erlalai, for graciously providing the venue and offering exceptional logistical support.
  • Voluntary Donors and Volunteers: Most importantly, we salute every donor who stepped forward to give the gift of life. Your generosity provides hope, healing, and another chance at life for patients in urgent need.
