Rotary for Environment
Rotary for Environment! The Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage along with the Interact District and Chunnakam Heritage Rotaractors jointly did the Cleanup Sri Lanka in a successful manner in the Jaffna area.
At the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage (Rotary District 3220, Sri Lanka & Maldives), environmental conservation, ecological balance, and community hygiene are central pillars of our humanitarian service. Safeguarding our local ecosystems requires collective responsibility, active youth engagement, and practical grassroots action to ensure a healthier, greener living space for generations to come.
Today, in a powerful demonstration of inter-generational collaboration, the Rotary Club of Chunnakam Heritage, in joint partnership with the Interact District and the energetic members of the Chunnakam Heritage Rotaract Club, successfully executed the Cleanup Sri Lanka initiative across key public locations in the Jaffna area.
Uniting Generations for a Cleaner, Greener Jaffna
Improper waste disposal and plastic pollution pose severe threats to local soil, groundwater resources, coastal zones, and public health across our peninsula. The Cleanup Sri Lanka campaign brought together Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Interactors to turn awareness into immediate, visible community impact:
-
Systematic Waste Collection & Segregation: Volunteers worked across designated public avenues, roadsides, and community spaces to gather non-biodegradable debris, single-use plastics, and polythene, segregating recyclable materials for proper processing.
-
Fostering Environmental Stewardship Among Youth: Involving school-aged Interactors alongside university- and career-level Rotaractors provided young leaders with hands-on civic experience, instilling lifelong habits of environmental responsibility.
-
Raising Public Awareness: The visible presence of our unified Rotary family carrying out cleanups served as an inspiring message to local residents and shop owners regarding the critical importance of responsible everyday waste disposal.
-
Strengthening the Rotary Family Bond: Collaborating side by side across Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact tiers reinforced our shared dedication, camaraderie, and united commitment to the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.
The energetic spirit, dedication, and teamwork displayed throughout the morning resulted in cleaner public spaces and a meaningful reduction of environmental litter in the heart of Jaffna.
Heartfelt Appreciation to Our Partners and Volunteers
A large-scale environmental initiative of this nature relies on passion, coordination, and enthusiastic volunteerism. We extend our deepest gratitude to the leaders and members of the Interact District and the Chunnakam Heritage Rotaract Club for their tireless energy and collaborative leadership throughout the project.
We also express our sincere appreciation to local municipal authorities, area volunteers, and community members who supported the cleanup drive and facilitated the safe disposal and recycling of collected materials.
